LEADERSHIP
We believe in a servant leadership approach and doing church as a team. Our Leadership Team seeks to serve our church by providing guidance, mentoring and encouragement. The two main areas of ministry involvement and leadership opportunities are the Sunday Ministry Teams and Neighborhood Small Groups (also called Life Groups). The Leadership Team is made up of volunteers and staff.
As we grow, we hope to add more pastoral staff in the areas of Creative Arts, Children's Ministry and Spiritual Growth. At present, Dan Cotter is the only member of the pastoral staff and he also serves on the Leadership Team. If you'd like to know more about Dan, please click on the Pastor's Bio.
SPECIAL LEADERSHIP SESSIONS
Doing Life Groups
This is a one session class for anyone is a new partner on a small group leadership team. The class is designed to help you learn how to start, team-lead and grow a thriving Life Group. It's a fun and interactive time where you will come away some practical tools to help you get started.
The Leadership Summit Workshop
This is a one session class on what it means to be a leader in ministry at Upcounty Church. Again, the format is fun, interactive and practical. If you want to explore your leadership potential, this workshop is the first step. All are welcome.
On Being a Leader
Providing training and mentoring for leaders to facilitate small groups and teams is key to Upcounty Church experiencing healthy, lasting growth as a church. Jesus said, But among you those who are the greatest should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant (Luke 22:26).
What is a leader? A leader honestly lives out his or her own spiritual journey with God while also passing it on to others. Pass on what you heard from me ... — to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others (2 Timothy 2:2).
Overall, we believe that leaders will exemplify and model the heart attitudes of a servant leader such as selflessness, humility, integrity, tenacity, forgiveness, teamwork and honesty.
Becoming a Leader
We realize that it takes time for someone to be ready for leadership. We encourage anyone who aspires to leadership to become a member of Upcounty Church first and then serve for a while on a Sunday Team or in a Life Group. After serving for a while, take some time to shadow your present Life Group Leader or Sunday Team Leader - and simply learn from them. The next step toward exploring your leadership potential at Upcounty would be to attend a Leadership Summit Workshop or Doing Life Groups leadership training session.
Our focus during this whole process is to help each person learn what it means to lead like Jesus.
